Lecturer - Brunel University
Dr Manohar will present design challenges posed by working with new technological applications driven by Machine Learning and Blockchain within multidisciplinary research projects. From her recent works, she looks at the value and associated challenges of Participatory Design and other creative approaches involving codesign of similar ‘opaque’ technologies. She demonstrates how creative methods are useful in enabling critical reflection and knowledge exchange. Thus providing a useful bridge between radically different disciplines; to counter emerging technologies’ ‘unconscious image’ as magic; and to valuably inform on future oriented design implications.
Dr Arthi Manohar is a researcher and lecturer at the Department of Design, Brunel University London. Her research focuses on investigating the relationship between social design and technology. She uses practice-led design approaches to explore complex and emergent socio-digital problems including designing for trust. She has experience in working across interdisciplinary research groups including Mixed Reality Lab at University of Nottingham, Innovation School at the Glasgow School of Art and CoCreate, at Northumbria University Newcastle.
