Testing Essex County Council’s Blue Badge service with blind and partially sighted users

In re-platforming its main site Essex County Council wanted to ensure that everyone, regardless of their needs and the technology they need could access Essex.gov.uk. Following stakeholder interviews, and within subjects usability testing on desktop and mobile, we ran a round of research with blind and low vision users. You’ll hear how we prepared the study and ran it – the practicalities and adaptations we made. I’ll also share some of our findings, the changes we made and the impact the research made.

About the speaker:

Helen is a senior user researcher with digital transformation agency Kainos. She graduated from City’s HCI programme in 2019. After working in The Interaction Lab under Stuart’s careful tutelage, she made the short journey to City’s IT department to work on City’s 2020 website overhaul. Since then Helen has carried out research for different government bodies including The National Archives, Defra and Essex County Council.
