Designing for everyone, because their lives may depend on it. User-centred design within the NHS COVID-19 app.

The NHS COVID-19 app was the first app of its kind in the UK for digital contact tracing . Throughout the pandemic, there was a need to get as many people in the UK using the NHS COVID-19 app as possible. With over 17M users, as the pandemic evolved so did the design of the app, so that it kept meeting the needs of the UK population. This talk will focus on examples of how designers needed to make balance various pressures in order to make design decisions that met the needs of the population, with an ultimate goal of saving lives.
